Warehouse operations Vocational Education and Training (VET) delivery should be a practical 'hands on' approach otherwise it can't meet the required criteria set by Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Often the learners are job seekers who do not have access to a WMS or even know what it does. In some cases, even trainees who are employed in a warehouse environment don't use a WMS as a part of their day to day work duties.
This begs the question; how are some learners being assessed as competent in a way that is valid and reliable with out practical skill being observed by the Trainer. By way of example, the following is an extract from the unit TLIA2012A - Pick and process orders. The criteria is clear about assessment methods.

If Australia is To maintain quality learning it is imperative that Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) strive to provide learning experiences that are real and which produce a worthwhile outcome for all stakeholders.

- through activities in an appropriately simulated environment at the registered training organisation, and/or
- in an appropriate range of situations in the workplace
